Bernard of Clairvaux: Vision of Christ on cross—Within a church, a nimbed and tonsured Bernard of Clairvaux wearing a habit kneels supporting Christ, who has a rayed nimbus and is wearing a crown of thorns and a short loincloth. Christ is descending from a tau cross with a plaque inscribed INRI.
The scene is framed by a border decorated with flowers, including viola, and inhabited by butterflies and a snail.
