Description:

Christ: Crowned with Thorns — Christ, with a crown of thorns and wearing a purple cloak, is seated. At left are Pilate(?), who is wearing turban-like headgear, holding a staff in his left hand, and indicating Christ with his right hand, and a torturer, who is raising a club in his right hand. At right are two other torturers. One is wearing a helmet and is touching the crown of thorns with a club held in both hands, and the other is kneeling on one knee, is holding a hat in his left hand, and is placing a stick in the right hand of Christ with his right hand. The scene is set in a room with a window through which a landscape is visible. Above the window is a relief of a shield flanked by two fantastic animals.
The margins are decorated with floreate ornament. In the lower margin is the heraldic shield of Hospitallers (gules, a cross argent). Text, Short Hours of the Holy Spirit.
