Notes
Emily Nelligan's primary source of inspiration for her small-scale landscape drawings is Cranberry Island off the coast of Maine near Mount Desert. Using only charcoal and an eraser she conjures the meteorological phenomena and subtleties of coastal light upon seas and skies. Often bordering on abstraction her work recalls the treatment of nature by early American modernists such as Arthur Dove and Georgia O'Keeffe.
