Notes: 

Contains graphite pencil study drawings of drapery, heads of gorgons, nude male studies for Atlas and Aquarius, wings for Perseus, gurnards, etc. Included is a list, dated May 1921 and in Sir Sydney C. Cockerell's hand, on Fitzwilliam Museum stationery, of drawings formerly in the sketchbook and now in the Fitzwilliam Museum. Eleven leaves remaining.

Inscription: 

Inscribed on the inside of cover in pen and blue ink, "Book of original studies & designs / by Edward Burne-Jones - / To Sydney C. Cockerell / grateful & affectionate / remembrance of unfailing friendship, / from Philip & Margaret, the / children of the artist. / 12 May. 1920. London"; inscribed in pen and blue ink by Sir Sydney C. Cockerell at lower edge, "This book contains 11 leaves. The date is probably 1877. / SCC May 14 1920"; Identification of subject on each page inscribed in pencil at lower edge in Cockerell's hand.
