Notes:

New York-based French artist Roland Flexner has devoted the last twenty years to the creation of small, delicate ink drawings produced by unusual methods involving chance and gravity. In some he blows bubbles of ink mixed with soapy water onto the paper, in others he lays the paper on ink floating on water. The resulting images, like in the present drawing, evoke mysterious and evocative landscapes and natural forms. While the use of chance relates to Surrealist methods, the intricate and fluid motifs also recall geological fragments and Japanese pictorial traditions.
