Notes
Gravelot designed this armorial device with two medals for the engraved title vignette to Volume III of Maximilien de Béthune (1560-1641), duke de Sully's "Mémoires" (London : 1747). One medal features a bee surmounted by a crown, the other bears a crown above laurel branches; below, a putto is seated alongside a pair of dogs and holding a rudder. Gravelot also designed the three headpiece vignettes which depict scenes from the career of the author, who served as minister to Henry IV of France (1553-1610). The vignettes appear on the first page of each of the three volumes.
