Notes:

This design replicates, in reverse but with less color and detail, a costume designed in 1676 by Jean I Berain for a River God featured in the divertissement of Act IV in the opera "Atys" by Jean-Baptiste Lully (Musee Conde, Chantilly, 2013.0.24). The differences between the two drawings indicates the designer responsible for the Morgan sheet is likely from the next generation, possibly Berain's son, Jean Berain the Younger or a member of his workshop. The younger Berain took over at the Opera following his father's death in 1711.
