Remnants of a signature at lower right, in brown ink (cut off); inscribed on the verso, at left center, in an old hand, in red chalk, "het Oude huis te heemstede".
Jane Shoaf Turner, with contributions by Felice Stampfle, Dutch Drawings in the Pierpont Morgan Library: Seventeenth to Nineteenth Centuries, New York, 2006, cat. no. 253.
The drawing is part of the large series of "portraits" of castles and country houses in the provinces of Holland, Utrecht, and Gelderland, drawn by Roghman in 1646-7. A total of 247 drawings from the series, which originally numbered some 250 sheets, was catalogued in 1708 at the time of the Bentes sale. Although the drawings are now widely dispersed, some 222 are known today.
