Inscribed at lower left margin, partially trimmed, in black chalk, "Berghem". Inscribed on verso, at upper left corner, in graphite, "Breederoode"; in another hand, in black chalk, at lower center, "Ruins of the Castle of Brederode", and at lower right, "Berghem / Mr ["r" in superscript] Peels is by Hobema".
