Pupil's copy of a design closely related to the fireplace that Flaxman executed for Sir Thomas Baring's house at Grange Park, Hamphsire (repr. in David Irwin, "John Flaxman 1755-1826," London, 1979, no. 244), and to a drawing in the Huntington Library, "Frieze of Classical Figures" (repr. in Robert R. Wark, "Drawings by John Flaxman in the Huntington Collection," San Marino, 1970, no. 51).
The Royal Library purchased from Frederick Koch the entire group of drawings formerly at Windsor Castle, except for the three sheets now in the Morgan Library.

Inscription: 

Inscribed at center above design, in pen and brown ink, "4 Foot-2 inches"; vertically along left edge, "1 Foot / 2 inches"; at center below design, in pen and gray ink, "Grecian Banquet".

Provenance: 
Royal Library, Windsor Castle; part of a group of drawings by Flaxman and his circle, said to have been stolen by the librarian Clifford Smith, and sold by his heirs in their sale, London, Christie's, 24 March 1981, lot 100; Frederick R. Koch.
