Notes:

Album of thirty-one miniature portraits of participants in the Congress of Vienna, 1815. The drawings were presumably bound into an album in the mid 1820's by Decle, binder to the king, which was subsequently worked on by the Susse Frêres, binders active in the late 1830's and 1840's.
Autograph letter tipped in.

Inscription:

Each portrait is signed, dated, and inscribed by the artist in pen and brown ink. Accompanied by manuscript title-page by Isabey in pen and brown ink., "congrès de vienne / medailles / des 8 Souverains aliés. / portraits. / des 21 Ministres / et des 2 Secrétaires. / du protocole. / dessinés d'après nature, par J. Isabey / à vienne / an. 1815".

Charles X; by whom given to the Duchesse de Berry on 1 January 1830; her sale, Paris 20 February 1837, bought by the Marquis of Hertford; by whom bequeathed to Comte Dimitry de Nesselrode; Grand Duke Nicolas; Jacques Seligmann, Paris; from whom purchased by J. Pierpont Morgan in 1908 (no mark: see Lugt 1509).
