Deity with mace and ax standing on prostate human figure

between 2000 B.C. and 1750 B.C.
hematite
17 x 8 mm
Morgan Seal 925
Provenance:
Acquired by Pierpont Morgan sometime between 1885 and 1908.
Notes:

"Evidence for dating appears in 923 and 924, both of which show two men, one at either side of a standard or symbol, wearing mantles with lines of fringe drawn over the shoulders and merging at the waist, thus recalling the garb of figures in Mari murals. Seal 925, which has a related subject, may be of later origin, since the curious gesture of the man at the left, who holds a stick across his shoulders, is paralleled in Brett 87, which is included by Frankfort in his second Syrian group."--Porada, CANES, p. 120
