Original wood block for the print is also in the PML (AZ127) with a letter glued to the back from Dürer to Beheim [translation]: "Dear Herr Michel Beheim: I am sending you the coat-of-arms again. Please let it be as it is. No one could improve it because it was done artistically and with care. Those who see it and who understand such matters will tell you so. If the leafwork on the helmet were curled back, it would hide the braid. Your humble servant Albrecht Dürer" (English translation reprinted from Strauss, 1980, p. 548).
