Binding
Fifteenth-century Swiss (Basel?) blind-tooled brown calf over wooden boards (31 x 23 cm), with "ihs maria" banderole stamp (from unidentified bindery); rebacked and repaired by Duprez Lahey. One clasp, wanting, strap extant. Corner and central diamond-shaped bosses with incised leaf pattern. Manuscript parchment pastedowns and quire guards; pastedowns are from a twelfth-century Latin Psalter (Ps. 21:3-20 and 30:16-31:5; 22:4-24:4 and 28:9-29:13). Boards apparently reversed by Duprez Lahey when rebound. The binding purportedly contained documents related to Jacob Joner, a tanner in Basel, dated 1473, which are now lost (cf. Stevenson, The problem of the Missale speciale, 192-93).
