1 item (2 p.) ; 23.4 cm
Notes:

Voltaire's Declaration was written in Frankfurt on 11 June 1753. The exact date and location of writing of this contemporary copy is unknown.
Year added to the date in the hand of Voltaire's niece and mistress, Marie Louise Denis.
Formerly cataloged as a letter from Marie Louise Denis to Jean Martin de Prades, dated 11 June 1753.
Besterman notes "When Voltaire was unable to lay his hands on the "contract" which Frederick ordered him to return, he made this declaration, which Mme Denis sent to Lord Marischal 11 June (D5317); see that letter and the notes on it. Aubry printed it in the Lettres d'Alsace (from the copy by Collini, Heineman) as a letter to Prades, which it certainly is not, though it may very well have been sent to him; but Aubry does not produce any evidence. If he is right the copy he prints must be the one sent by Mme Denis 18 June (D5337); but if so how did it get among her papers?"
Part of a large collection of letters from Voltaire to his niece and mistress Marie Louise Mignot Denis. Letters have been cataloged individually; see collection-level record for more information.
