Noting that, although he was born in York, he cannot think of himself as a Yorkshireman, but that he has a "great love for the Yorkshire dales, in particular Swaledale, to which I have referred in a poem called 'Streams'"; goes on to say that his poem "In praise of limestone" "owes something to that landscape, though it happens to be written abount Florence, which is geologically similar"; and adds in a P.S., "How could I become Poet Laureate when I am an American Citizen?".
