16th-century German blind-rolled pigskin over partially-bevelled wooden boards (40 x 30 cm), sewn on 5 supports, with rolls attributed to Hans Schnabel of Stuttgart (EBDB w002984, active 1580-, d.1606). Plain paper pastedowns and endleaves; plain endbands; red edges. 2 clasps, missing.
Inscriptions/Markings
Hand decoration: Contemporary Strasbourg rubrication, alternating red and blue lombards with foliate decoration at major initials, red rubrics, headlines, and capital strokes. Annotations: Manuscript inscription citing Johannes Nast's Historisch-kritische Nachrichten von den sechs ersent deutschen Bibelausgaben (Stuttgart, 1767), 18th-century (front pastedown).
