Inscriptions/Markings
Hand decoration: Contemporary German rubrication (rather sloppy/heavy-handed), red lombards, paragraph marks, and capital strokes, by Sebald Pirckheimer. Annotations: Contemporary marginal notations and drawings/doodles throughout, in several hands, including Sebald and Willibald Pirckheimer and perhaps one or two others. Contemporary inscription from Ovid: "Bix sex millenos v[er]s[us] i[n] codice scriptos/ Sed t[er]q[ui]nque minus [con]tinet ovidius" (leaf &5v).

Sebald Pirckheimer (1475-1488?), rubrication inscription: "Rubrica p[er] me Sebaldum pirkeiym[er] anno mcccclxxx & octo epif. [6 Jan. 1488/9]" (leaf &5v, on the inscription, see Bühler), annotations and marginal drawings, through inheritance to his brother: Willibald Pirckheimer (1470-1530), marginal annotations, through inheritance to Hans Hieronymus Imhoff (d. 1663); Thomas Howard, 2nd Earl of Arundel (1586-1646), purchased Pirckheimer's library from Imhoff in 1636, inherited by his grandson: Henry Howard, 6th Duke of Norfolk (1628-1684), Bibliothecae Norfolcianae, no. 2924, gave library to the Royal Society, 1667; Royal Society, armorial bookplate, with shelf marks: XXVII: 415 and XXVI/125 (front pastedown) and stamps (leaves a2r and &5v), sold to Bernard Quaritch, 1873; Bernard Quaritch, General Catalogue (1874), no. 18109; Giuseppe Martini, collation note (front pastedown); Pierpont Morgan Library, purchased from Lathrop C.
