19th-century French tooled gold-painted leather, forging a historical style, over wooden boards (42 x 29 cm), sewn on 6 supports by Louis Hagué; with painted armorial of Cardinal Medici. Plain paper pastedowns and endleaves; decorative endbands; gilt, gauffered, and painted edges. 2 clasps, missing, and corner pieces.
Inscriptions/Markings
Hand decoration: Contemporary (German?) rubrication, red initials and paragraph marks; primary initials in blue with red penwork decoration. Annotations: A few contemporary marginal notations in text.
