According to Oenslager (Oenslager 1984, 39), the attribution of this drawing is by comparison with similar--if less finished--drawings in the sketchbook in the Vienna Kunstbibliothek with drawings by Giuseppe Galli Bibiena. Oenslager proposed that this large capriccio was perhaps not intended as a stage scene, but rather an independent drawing exercise.
