Notes:

A reconstruction of a fragmentary capital in the garden loggia of Palazzo Farnese, this study is part of a series of related drawings that also includes several sheets at the Staatliche Kunsthalle, Karlsruhe. Traditionally attributed to Piranesi, they are perhaps by Nicolas François-Daniel Lhuillier, who was associated with Piranesi in the 1760s, and in whose Livre d'Ornements a printed version of the study appears.
