The first French Protestant version printed in France according to the version adopted by the Reformed Church of Geneva; a revision, based on the Hebrew and Greek, by Olivetan. Sometimes known as "La Bible de Serrières", from the village of that name near Neuchâtel, where it was published.
The Latin preface and the introduction to the N.T. are by Jean Calvin; the "Table de tous les motz" by H. Rosa and Eutychus Deper (i.e. Bonaventure Des Périers); "Indice des principales matieres" (with preface) by Matthieu Gramelin (i.e. Matthieu Malingre).
Initials; printer's device on half-title of Apocrypha and leaf at end. The initial letters of Latin distichs on verso of 7th prelim. leaf form an acrostic on the translator's name in Latin: Petrus Robertus Olivetanus. The initial letters of each word of an acrostic verse on leaf at end form the couplet: Les Vaudois, peuple evangélique, Ont mis ce thrésor en publique. [Vol. 2] has caption title only: Le volume des prophetes. [Vol. 3] has half-title only: Le volume de tous les liures Apocryphes, contenus en la translation commune, lesquelz nauons point trouuez en Ebrieu ny en Chaldee. [Vol. 4] has special t.p. only: Le Nouueau Testament De nostre Seigneur et seul Sauueur Jesus Christ. Translate de Grec en Francoys.
