The Morgan Library & Museum invites applications for the position of Inventory and Shipping Specialist. The successful candidate will essentially maintain control of all inventory and supplies, as well as support e-commerce and mail order fulfillment. Reporting to the Director of Merchandising, the Inventory and Shipping Specialist is responsible for the accurate receipt and handling of merchandise into the POS, careful pricing, transport and storage of products, reporting damages and maintaining POS system functions. They will also work closely with the Manager of Merchandising Services and the Shop Manager to control the flow of merchandise to and from the sales floor, share relevant stockroom updates and communicate on customer order fulfillment. Day-to-day responsibilities will also include assisting the operation of the Shop sales floor as needed.
- Accurately receives and carefully inspects incoming shipments and merchandise for the Shop. Responsible for coordinating with relevant departments the delivery and receipt of large incoming shipments that require the use of the museum’s loading dock.
- Communicates with the Director of Merchandising and Manager of Merchandising Services all shipment discrepancies, damages, purchase order and invoice needs.
- Keeps organized records of receipt of merchandise in both the Shop’s POS system and inventory paperwork. Supplies accurate paperwork to the Director of Merchandising for timely payment of invoices.
- Ensures the stockroom is properly maintained for a safe and clean work environment at all times.
- Maintains clear and organized inventory in stockroom that aligns with merchandising strategies of the sales floor. Works closely with the Shop Manager to be extremely familiar with all merchandise and its corresponding storage in both the stockroom and the sales floor.
- Responsible for the timely and careful fulfillment of all e-commerce and in-store mail orders in coordination with the Shop Manager. Provides excellent customer service by communicating directly with customers on inquiries regarding shipping matters.
- Works with the Director of Merchandising to monitor shipping costs to maximize profitability. Keeps up with industry standards, pricing and best practices for mail order fulfillment, proposing improvements where necessary.
- Monitors, orders, and organizes supplies for both shipping and sales floor packaging needs as well as POS inventory supplies.
- Works with the Director of Merchandising on all facets of the annual physical inventory of the Shop. Acts as the lead in the preparation, implementation and reconciliation of the annual physical inventory.
- Maintains a collaborative relationship with other departments throughout the Morgan, especially Facilities, Security and Publications departments.
- Will be proficient in Sales Associate duties to assist on the sales floor in the event of staff shortages or high traffic times.
- College degree preferred, high school/GED minimum
- At least 2–3 years prior experience in inventory control and shipping, or similar functions
- Experience with Point-of-Sale software, shipping carrier platforms and e-commerce platforms
- General knowledge of cash control and retail operation procedures
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Museum and/or art-related experience desirable
$54,000 annually; excellent benefits.
