19th-century blind-tooled brown calf over bevelled boards (29.5 x 22 cm), sewn on 5 supports; rebound by Blackie and Son, 1857 (cf. Folger Library, STC 9328). Marbled paper pastedowns and fly leaves; decorative endbands; red-stained edges.

Provenance
[Johann August Ernesti (1707-1781), 1734]; Frederick Roach, of Arreton, Isle of Wight, signature and inscription stating that the book was rebound in 1857 and the binder removed a leaf with many signatures and names of former owners on it, but stating that it had been sold in Edinburgh and was once owned by John Augustus Ernesti in 1734 (second front fly leaf recto); Roach sale, 17 Dec. 1883; Maggs Bros., 1920, cat. no. 395, lot 168 (and another unidentified Maggs catalogue, description cut out, formerly laid-in, now in departmental file); E.
