Dark brown calf, silver-tooled (oxidized) and with painted strapwork in black and white, with arms of Philippe III de Croy and de Renty and monogram and motto "Iy parviendray". Croy's motto around board edges: "Per non manifestare il mio dolore tal volta rido che mi crepa il core." Edges gilt, gauffered, and painted; bottom edge with Croy armorial. Repaired by Duprez Lahey, Nov. 1945.
