Ubicini's "Letters on Turkey" had appeared with her name as translator, "not having had the slightest communication from Murray" or opportunity to correct the proof sheets of the book; remarking on the reviews the book has received ("I am spoken of in very good natured & even flattering terms by every periodical that has noticed the book at all, except George's dearly beloved 'Leader', and that knocks out the brains of both author and translator"); saying that she has been reading Villemain's "charming book" "Souvenirs contemporains [d'histoire et de littérature]"; remarking on the trials of her "stormy & troubled life", confiding that she never knows "from what quarter the attack will come or on what pretense it will be made", and that the "storms of abuse & reproach" leave her "prostrate & bewildered"; stating that she fears a "perpetual descent" and that the situation arises from "unsoundness in the brain", and begging that Madame Blaze de Bury "not breathe a hint to living soul of what I write".
