Under the direction of the Board of Trustees of the Morgan Library, the Pritzker Prize–winning architect Renzo Piano has developed a comprehensive plan to expand and better integrate the campus of the Morgan.

Examining the role of Pierre Matisse in promoting the work of twentieth-century artists in North America, the Morgan Library presents Pierre Matisse and His Artists from February 14 through May 19, 2002. This is the Morgan's first exhibition devoted exclusively to twentieth-century painting and sculpture.

The Morgan Library has received from the collection of Eugene and Clare Thaw a promised gift of twenty letters written by the great postimpressionist painter Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890).
