An interpolation in the opera of Francesco Bianchi (1752-1810), first performed in London in 1791. Weber had composed another scena ed aria for the same opera in 1812 (Jähns 142). The subject of the opera was drawn from the Ines de Castro episode in the third canto of Camoëns' Os lusiadas.
First performed: Weber's concert in Munich, Aug. 2, 1815.
