"The Symphony for Aida was composed ... for the Milan premiere of the opera in 1872, but was never performed in public.... Because the autograph is not available, the present edition is based on a private copy which is coeval and manuscript and also upon the attentive hearing of the tape of Toscanini's performance" in 1940 with the NBC Symphony Orchestra.
