Notes
Libretto for a minstrel farce; the cast list on page 2 indicates that the title blackface role was played in Boston and New York in 1842 and 1853 by popular minstrel performer Thomas D. ("Daddy) Rice (1808-1860), who probably originated the role when the farce first premiered circa 1838; with F.T.C. Shaw and G.M. Payfer listed as performing the role in two New York productions staged in 1856.
