Gilbert's libretto for a one-act musical revue based on Hans Christian Andersen's story, "The emperor's new clothes"; premiered on 5 July 1875 at St. George's Hall in London with music originally by (Thomas) German Reed (1817-1888); published twenty years later with new music composed by "Florian Pascal" (a pseudonym for Joseph Williams, Jr. (1847-1923)). 51 pages, with corrections in pencil, and pages 39-41 and a portion of page 38 struck-out in pen.
Two graphite sketches of a man in breeches, jacket, and a wide brimmed hat, executed on the 9th and 10th leaves of the blank notebook leaves following the text of the manuscript.
