The man in the moon, &c. &c. &c. ... With fifteen cuts.

Published
London : Printed by and for William Hone, 45, Ludgate-hill, 1821.
Notes
A late edition of Cohn (1924) 527; cf. George 13508-13521.
The engravings, incl. a title vignette, are by George Cruikshank.
Contains also: 1) a satirical dedication to George Canning; 2) "A political Christmas carol" (p. [17]-[20]) with the familiar tune for a text beginning "God rest you merry gentlemen, let nothing you dismay" (p. [18]), but with a text which diverges thereafter into political parody (verses 2-8: p. [18]-[20]); and 3) "'The doctor.' A parody written by the Right Honorable George Canning, M.P." (p. [21]-[22]).
The title piece is sometimes attributed to William Hone but he denied authorship of it while stating that "the Carol, and the remainder of that pamphlet are mine" (cf. his Facetiae and miscellanies, 1827, p. vii). Obviously "The doctor" was not by him.
