Notes
This leaf is from the Psalter section of a Dutch Bible. The Psalters in Dutch Bibles sometimes contained additional material that enabled the Psalter to be used liturgically.
The recto contains the Canticle of Ezechias (Isaiah 38:10-20), customarily recited as part of the Divine Office on Tuesdays; this is followed at the bottom of the second column by the rubric: "Feria iiii Invitato[rium]" (Invitatory for Wednesdays). The verso contains Psalms 52, 53, and half of 54 (these three Psalms begin the suite of Psalms traditionally recited on Wednesdays at Matins).
Decoration: historiated initial "D" containing an image of David and the fool.
A sister leaf, containing Psalm 26 with an historiated initial of David Pointing to his Eye, was in a New Jersey private collection in the 1980s.
