Notes
This “Christmas folder” is the only example of Child's calligraphy in the collection; it joins other examples of Gothic-revival calligraphy and illumination in the department's holdings.
The title derives from the first line of the carol.
"I Sing of a Maiden That is Makeless" is a fifteenth-century English Christmas carol.
Decoration: a gilt pen-and-ink drawing of the Virgin and Child based on a thirteenth-century altarpiece in the church of Santa Maria Maggiore, Florence.
