Notes
This work, a study for one of the paintings in Colomba's Tarot series, reimagines a Major Arcana card by blending Western and Afro-Caribbean iconographies. The Black female figure, taking on the role of The Magician, is outfitted in regal attire including a diadem featuring the infinity symbol, which often appears above The Magician's head in tarot decks. Other occult references include a pentacle design on the serving tray and a necklace in the shape of an Ouroboros, an ancient symbol from Egyptian and Greek mythology depicting a serpent that continuously devours its own tail in evocation of cyclical renewal.
