Notes
Adam Pendleton is a polymath whose work in film, publishing, sculptural installation, and especially, drawing and painting are rooted in an ever-evolving inquiry into the relationship between representation and abstraction. Pendleton generally works in series and has developed a lexicon of imagery including drips, spray-paint splatters, strokes, geometric shapes, and word fragments, which he reworks from composition to composition. Untitled (days for drawing), 2023, is part of a series in which Pendleton gathers daily gestures made in the studio and transfers them to paper via ink transfer and direct mark making. In these drawings, gestures are in a constant state of arrival and departure, with motifs and layers of pigment moving in and out of focus.
