A typical sheet of studies by the classicizing seventeenth-century Venetian artist Carpioni, this drawing probably relates to one of the Bacchanals for which Carpioni is best known today, canvases packed with groups of clothed and nude figures akin to those seen here. Its relationship to a specific work, however, remains to be discovered.
