Notes
Plensa is best known for his public sculptures, such as the Crown Fountain in Chicago's Millennium Park or the stainless steel spheres composed of letters and symbols at Hudson Yards in New York. The human body, poetry, and light are his main themes. In the present drawing Plensa layered various materials to give the work a tactility similar to that of his three-dimensional works. The face is a photograph of one of his sculptures of young girls. The closed eyes, dripping black paint, and translucent resin create an image of great sensuality and mystery, like a vision in a dream, reminiscent of late 19th-century Symbolism.
