Notes:
Alongside Richard Diebenkorn and David Park, Nathan Oliveira was part of a group of Bay Area painters who combined the bold, painterly style of abstract expressionism with figurative imagery beginning in the 1950s. In this drawing of a reclining nude, Oliveira relied on a strong light and dark contrast to heighten the effect of a sexually charged pose.
