Notes
Ottavio Leoni's drawn portraits constitute a virtual who's who of Roman culture in the early seventeenth century, for the artist depicted hundreds of churchmen, aristocrats, artists, and other figures. Occasionally, he seems to have made multiple versions of the portraits, as appears to be the case here, for this depiction of the painter Federico Barocci joins another (inv. I, 25) that has long been in the collection.
