Notes:

10 original watercolors of garden flowers removed from a contemporary book bound in purple morocco, blind tooled with gilt fillet, gilt initials R.B. in center of cover. France, 1846.
This sheet is from a group of ten watercolors depicting garden flowers removed from a volume bound in purple morocco, blind-tooled with gilt fillet, and stamped in gilt with the initials R.B. in the center of the cover. The binding was produced in France in 1846, suggesting that the botanical illustrations may date around the same time. They are executed on English paper from the Whatman mill and are in the spirit of the eighteenth-century master Pierre-Joseph Redouté.
