Notes
Joe Zucker established his reputation in the early 1970s with idiosyncratic paintings in a wide range of styles that often employ unusual materials (such as cotton balls and plastic). Key themes in his work include history, global politics, and popular imagery. He also highlights the connections between this imagery and art materials, as in this satirical drawing of a World War II fighter plane, which purports to identify a paintbrush bristle on the machine's emblem.
