Notes
In 1997, children's book illustrator and writer Maurice Sendak was approached to develop an advertising campaign for Bell Atlantic aimed at humanizing the company. He agreed to adapt the creatures from his beloved 1963 children's book, Where the Wild Things Are, provided he could retain creative control of the end product. The resulting campaign included print ads, billboards, posters, subway displays, and television commercials. These charming drawings showing Wild Things at play in a field were among the images Sendak created for the campaign. In the Morgan collection they complement the nearly nine hundred drawings related to Sendak's theatrical designs--including the opera version of Where the Wild Things Are--received with the artist's bequest in 2013.
