Notes
Harpignies spent the winter of 1904-5 in Cap Martin, where he ventured along the coast in search of views. Just north of Cap Martin, Menton is near the border with Italy, and is a site famed for its citrus groves and as a resort town on the French Riviera. In his mid-eighties, the artist was moved to depict the seaside haven as a gift to his doctor.
