28 leaves of an illustrated manuscript for Robertson's Chansons de l'ancienne France (Paris : Pour les Bibliophiles indépendants, chez H. Floury, Boulevard des capucines, 1905); with Robertson's handwritten text and score, as well as 24 of his watercolor drawings, all reproduced in facsimile in the printed volume; previously published in Great Britain as: French songs of old Canada. London : W. Heineman, 1904.

Summary: 

Incomplete manuscript for an illustrated collection of 15 traditional French folk songs, with lyrics and music decoratively hand lettered by Robertson and accompanied by his watercolor head- and tailpiece drawings illustrating the selected texts. The manuscript includes Robertson's original design for the volume's pictorial cover, illustrated t.p., hand lettered half t.p., and table of contents, followed by manuscripts for 11 of the 15 songs comprising the finished work, each illustrated with two watercolor drawings; the songs included in the Library's manuscript are: Cécilia; La belle rose; A la clair fontaine; Le chant d'Isabeau; Ah, qui me passera le bois; En roulant ma boule; Au jardin de mon Père; Gai lon la, gai le rosier; L'Assemblé d'Amour; Je me fait maitresse; La fille du roi d'Espagne.
