An artist whose work has been focusing on drawing since 1989, Hiebert creates abstract compositions and site-specific installations that explore the process and materiality of drawing. In the present sheet, she achieved a beautiful, poetic effect from the juxtaposition of two divergent approaches to mark making, each executed in distinct material. The emphasis on the tactile quality of the paper and the unconventional application of red earth produce a sensuous evocation of the natural world despite the absence of traditional landscape imagery.
