Notes:

One of a series of 117 drawings traditionally regarded as the work of artists from the circle of Pierre Joseph Redouté (1759-1840), but it is now believed to be the work of pupils of an earlier flower painter, Madeleine Basseporte (1701-1780). Mlle Basseporte, who succeeded her master Claude Aubriet as "Peintre du Roy, de son Cabinet et du Jardin", instructed the children of Louis XV and was frequently employed by Mme de Pompadour.
