Notes
Gravelot's design is preparatory for an engraving illustrating the second story of the fourth day in an edition of Boccaccio's “Decamerone” published in Paris by Prault in 1757-61 (the image is captioned: IV Journée, Nouvelle 2). The scene depicts the public humiliation of Fra Alberto as he is exhibited in the piazza in the guise of a wild man.
