Notes
Possibly attributed to Thomas Lawrence (Bristol 1769-1830 London)
Possibly attributed to Elisabeth-Louise Vigée Le Brun (Paris 1755-1842 Paris)
The artist who made this drawing remains unknown, though attributions to Elisabeth-Louise Vigée Le Brun (Paris 1755-1842 Paris) and to Thomas Lawrence (Bristol 1769-1830 London) have been suggested. Similar drawings include a portrait of Mary Hamilton by Lawrence recently acquired by the British Museum and the self-portrait by Vigée Le Brun in the Morgan's collection (1955.8). The drawing appears to be a portrait study of a contemporary of the artist.
