Summary
The present drawing shows Diana, assisted by several attendants, in the midst of spearing a stag that is attacked by dogs and lies lifelessly in the foreground of the paper. The drawing has been gridded for transfer, however no painting of the same subject is known. In a canvas titled Diana and Endymion (now in a private collection), Piola painted Diana in another mythological circumstance.
